Client: Guardian Glass
Application: Float Glass Plant
Location: Queretaro, Mexico
Equipment Summary:
One (1) Monovent Natural Ventilator 233” x 144”
One (1) Monovent Natural Ventilator 189” x 120”
One-hundred ninty-six (196) Fixed Blade Wall Louvers: Stainless Steel
Six-hundred (600) Adjustable Wall Louvers: Galvanized Steel
Twenty-five (25) 72” Diameter Hooded Roof Exhaust Fans
Two (2) 48” Diameter Hooded Roof Exhaust Fans
Project Profile:
Guardian Glass chose Moffitt Corporation to design the ventilation system and supply the equipment for their new Float Glass plant in Mexico. This giant plant includes a warehouse, a glass kiln (lehr), and a utility area.
This building was designed to encompass a large space to surround the lehr. The size and high temperatures produced by the kiln make natural ventilation the ideal cooling method for this type of facility. Two very large Monovent natural ventilators were placed on the roof, and supply air was provided by a substantial number of wall louvers at ground level.
Hooded roof exhaust fans were installed at key “hot spots” around the building. These fans improve air movement in areas where natural ventilation may not otherwise reach. This ensures that the entire building stays cool and comfortable.

Client: Rio Tinto Alcan
Application: Aluminum Smelter
Location: Kitimat, BC Canada
Equipment Summary:
Labyrinth Natural Ventilator 6m x 201m
Fifty-nine (59) 4m x 2.5m LV7590 Wall Louver
Project Profile:
As part of their North American partnership the Colt Group and Moffitt Corporation teamed-up to provide equipment for an anode pallet storage building for Rio Tinto Alcan. As part of their planned Kitimat Modernization Project (KMP), Rio Tinto Alcan decided to update their facility to increase efficiency and energey savings, while also increasing production by over 48%.
Rio Tinto’s engineering firm, Bechtel, contacted Colt/Moffitt to assit in the design of ventilation equipment for the storage facility. After careful consideration, Moffitt chose to use natural ventilation utilizing Labyrinth ventilators on the roof and 90 degree operable wall intake louvers.
Testing of Labyrinth was conducted to prove the units would withstand the heavy snow loads that are commonplace in British Columbia. Colt/Moffitt also provided local field assembly and supervision services for the Labyrinth and louvers at the Kitimat jobsite to help ensure proper assembly and installation.
The co-op of Colt and Moffitt led to the complete design, engineering, manufacturing and supplying of the ventilation equipment for the KMP. All manufacturing was done at the Moffitt plant in the United States.
Client: Goodyear
Application: Tire Factory
Location: Dalian, China
Equipment Summary:
Continuous Relief Ventilators - 474 m2 of 600mm
Continuous Relief Ventilators - 5,203 m2 of 1200mm
Continuous Relief Ventilator - 376 m2 of 3000mm
Project Profile:
Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tire companies, with operations in most regions of the world. Together with its subsidiaries and joint ventures, Goodyear operates 54 plants in 22 countries.
Spaceframe/Moffitt Industrial Ventilation Products won the contract for the design and manufacture of the ventilation equipment for Goodyear’s facilities in Dalian, China. In China, ventilation systems are a little different from those in the US. In the US air movement is the top priority to consider with ventilation.
In China however, the priorities are:
- Worker Safety (smoke release in case of fire)
- Natural Lighting for Good Global Environmental Stewardship
- Facility Ventilation
Spaceframe/Moffitt Industrial Ventilation was able to meet all of Goodyear’s priority list with our CRV by incorporating value added options to the unit.
